KOLKATAR GAAN KOLKATAR PRAAN

A style of modern bengali song which brought a new era of popular bengali songs. After Suman and Nachiketa, bands like Mohiner Ghoraguli, Chandrabindoo, Bhoomi, Cactus, Paraspathor, Lakkhichara, Fossils and so on, have again attracted bengali audience to listen and like bengali numbers. Different bands follow different styles which range from bengali vatiali to lokgiti, from pop to rock and from smooth jazz to country. Nowadays, in every "para", neighborhood in Bengali,in kolkata there is atleast one upcoming band comprising of youngsters. Among the bands the most cerebral is perhaps the Chandrobindoo while I myself is also an ardent fan of Fossils for their rock music.MANY PEOPLE WHEN TOLD OF BENGALI MUSIC GET A DISGUSTED LOOK ON THRIR FACES. THREY ARE FOOLS. THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE BEAUTY OF BENGALI MUSIC. KOLKATA IS VERY FAMOUS ALL OVER INDIA FOR ITS BENGALI MUSIC. BANDS AS WELL AS INDIVIDUAL SINGERS ARE FLOURISHING IN THE CITY. BANDS LIKE FOSSILS, CACTUS, CHANDRABINDOO AND BHOOMI ARE MORE PROMINENT BUT INDIVIDUAL SINGERS LIKE NACHIKETA, ANJAN DUTTA AND LOPAMUDRA ARE NOT FAR BEHIND. BELOW GIVEN ARE BRIEF DESCPRIPTIONS OF SOME BANDS:

FOSSILS
Fossils is the pioneer in "Rock" genere in the circuit of Bangla Band. They proved others wrong & showed "Banglaye rock hoy".Members--Bubun ( Drums and Percussions ), Chandra ( Bass Guitar, Backing Vocal ),Deep ( Guitar, Backing Vocal ),Partha ( Guitar & Backing Vocal ) and Rupam (Lead Vocalist, Song Writer and Composer)FOSSILS IS ONE of the most popular Bangla rock bands in India. Their music is a blend of blues, hard rock and alternative music. It has four albums under its name. It makes original compositions and has a large fan following.Fossils was once asked to get off stage to make way for better-known bands. Today it is considered one of the most original rock bands in India.Fossils is the first bengali band who have tried to bring the whole rock concept in the bangla band songs.Fossils -The Chakrabuho will encircle your senses till u reach the last step to Nemesis. Jara bangla band er gaan shone tader kache notun kore kichu bolar nei fossils er sommonde, r jara shone na tader ke bolo kholo nijeder kaan aar shono fossils er gaan........ JOY ROCK, JOY FOSSILS

CHANDRABINDOO
Chandrabindoo is one of leading bangla Bands in amader kolkata shohor ..The coolest bandla band ..melody and funny lyric that's the USP of Chandrabindoo. For them who favour and savour those great numbers by chandrabindoo.Ya,that modern touch with great middle-class sentiment, some satire, some humour. Not for the post modern "night-bright" guyz who are just the consumers of corporated food, music and clubs. So if you are a chandrabindoo fan you should be CHANDRABINDAAS, two steps ahead of being just bindaas.

CACTUS

► CACTUS : Sidhhartha(Vocals), Sanjay(Guitars), Sandip(Bass), Sudipto(Keys), Sibaji(Drums), Sayak(Vocals)

A desert exists all around us and even within us. Possibilities of survival 0%. Hence CACTUS

BHOOMI
The bangla band bhoomi rocks.Bhoomi is one of the leading bangla bands from Kolkata, with a different style of music.Folk song with urban style, sweet melody and too much experimental in sound ---This is Bhoomi for you. This band 1st became famous with "Barandaye Roddur" then "kapal", "chokhar deshe" and "pocha kaka" were other great hits. Today Bhoomi is one of the best, if not the best, bands in amader kolkata shohor.

LAKHHICHARA

Lakkhichhara..is a proper bangla ROCK band based in kolkata..they started off pretty young..they are awsome at live shows.they sound distinct and its always a treat to listen to them.
They are everywhere, every street knows them, every single schoolgirl has their fragrance inside her heart, every festival celebrates their spirit and everyone calls them - Lakkhichhara! Yes, that's what they are - simple, honest, fun-loving vagabonds of the City of Kolkata. A little crazy about life, sometimes ironically sad and sincere, determined to burn all their guts for music. Completely unware of the routine life, these are a bunch of freewheelin' rock-a-rollers (handpicked and handcrafted!!) with an uncontrollable tendency to perform eerie experiments through music and words. Recklessly robust and sensationally unbranded in texture, smells green, looks natural and tastes - HOT ....

BAND HISTORY

Some people say "Morning shows the day" … it's not always true, but when it comes to Lakkhichhara… it surely is. Back in the 90's, nurtured by the visions of the revolutionary music composer/singer/song writer/performer/film maker Late Mr. Gautam Chattopadhyay, a group of schoolkids that included his own son Gaurab Chatterjee on Drums along with some of his friends (ex members include Sayak, Parambrata, Abhishek, Samya, Riju, CG, Shomi) found music as their only form of expression. Being the youngest band to cut a single, Lakkhichhara recorded their first song "Porashonay Jolanjoli …" written by Goutam Chattopadhyay himself, which appeared on the ground breaking album 'Abar Bochhor Kuri Pore' - Mohiner Ghoraguli Shompadito Bangla Gaan. (Asha Audio ). Many a year passed, kids grew up to youngsters, few of them chose their own roads, the rest emerged in the professional circuit as Lakkhichhara !! That was the year 1999, the guys started doing music professionally in college fests, small gigs in hotels, pubs etc. During these times the band's noteworthy achievements were - the "Biswa Banga Sammellan performance & their involvement in a Television Serial - 'Swaponil'. Debaditya & Nilanjan ( both ex- Astra) joined the band in 2000, taking care of keyboards & guitars respectively. Year 2001 saw Lakkhichhara's debut album 'Megha Malhar' (Asha Audio,2001), the lineup was Sayak Bandopadhyay - Vocals, Nilanjan Mukherjee - Guitars & Backing Vocals, Sanket Bhattacharya - Bass, Debaditya Choudhury - Keyboards, Gaurab Chatterjee - Drums, Vocals & Backing Vocals with Anyrvan joining the band as the songwriter. Though not a hugely commercial success, the album featured some major hits like 'Care Korina', 'Shudhu Chai Tomay', being regularly aired on the FM channels. Besides, 'Megha Malhar' & 'Mohabishwo' won the hearts of critics. The Band also performed in 'Banga Sanskriti Utsav' that year … every thing was good till December 2001, when the vocalist Sayak Bandopadhyay left the Band.As we all know - 'Life goes on'… so it did…Subhajit Mukherjee joined Lakkhichhara as lead vocalist/ guitarist (Subhajit - Vocals, Nilanjan - Guitars & Backing Vocals, Sanket - Bass, Debaditya - Keyboards, Gaurab- Drums, Percussion, Vocals & Backing Vocals, Anyrvan - Lyrics) the guys kept rolling down newfound road …followed by concerts, interviews and a dream to touch the sky. Lakkhichhara performed in 12 Down Inn Street, Peerless Inn - being the first bangla band to play live. The title track stormed off the music scene with no leaf unturned. Within a month it turned out to be 'The Anthem of the Youth'. The song boasted of it's popularity at number 1 for months on the radio charts, bringing more shows, fans and above all - RECOGNITION! The album not only confirmed the band's position in the 'most popular' category, but also showcased their versatility. The romanticism of 'Mone Porchhe Na', the valor of 'Lakkhichhara', the melancholy of 'Shatsho Shokaal', the luster of 'Ballerina' proved their skills as matured songmakers. Flooded with invitations & interviews from the Radio & Television Channels, the band was on the peak of grandeur. The album's commercial success made Lakkhichhara a house hold name. The same year the guys performed at 'Trincas' - being the first band to appear live. …AND ONE MORE LOST SOUL FOR THE ROAD…2004 brought a new axeman to Lakkhichhara - Rishabh Ray - and the band was ready to roll. Relentless touring, college fests, charity shows & invitations kept the band with not even a minute to sit back, Finally in 2005, Lakkhichhara managed to cut some fresh material to record their third album 'Eka' (Asha Audio, 2005). Packed with a variety of tunes, 'Eka' strongly boasts to be their best work till date. The urban groovy 'Paliye Berai', 'Ami Raaji', 'Ke Ki Boley', reflected the helplessness of the modern psyche, the blasphemous 'Eka', 'Proshno', 'Boba Festun' or the bitter sweet dodgy romantic ballads like 'Phirey Esho', 'Jani-na Ki' surely made their way straight into the young hearts of the city. The band even anchored a popular weekend game show 'Chhakka Noile Fakka' on Akash Bangla which was eventually a big success. The members have also appeared as judges on 'Hau Mau Khau' - a game show on Zee Bangla TV, Band-E-Mataram (I & II), "Rock Idols" along with numerous college fests.
